Child safety standards
Effective 8 September 2026
Shijro is a family history app published on Google Play by Shijro. It lets the members of a family record the people in their family, how they are related, their stories, photos and documents, and share that history with each other. These standards describe how Shijro and its developer prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), how anyone can report a concern, and what we do when we receive a report.
What is not allowed
We do not tolerate child sexual abuse or exploitation of any kind in Shijro. This includes, without limitation:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM): any image, video, document or text that depicts a minor in a sexually explicit way, or that sexualises a minor.
- Grooming: contacting or building a relationship with a minor in order to abuse or exploit them, and any content that facilitates it.
- Sextortion, trafficking, or the sexualisation of minors in any form, including drawings, animation and text.
- Any use of family content, such as photos or biographies of children, to harass, endanger or exploit a child.
Content that breaks these standards is removed as soon as we become aware of it, and the account responsible is closed. This applies to private families as much as to public ones.
How to report a concern
Anyone can report content or behaviour from inside the app, whether or not they have an account:
- On any person's page, scroll to the bottom and tap Report this person. The report includes which family and person it is about so we can find the content quickly.
- On any photo, tap the ... button at the top and choose Report this photo. The report includes which photo it is.
- From the Settings tab, under Help and feedback, tap Report content.
- Or email contact@shijro.com. Put "child safety" in the subject line and it is read first.
You do not need to include the material itself in your report. A description of where you saw it is enough. If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police first.
What we do with a report
- Reports about child safety are reviewed before anything else, and we aim to act on them within 24 hours.
- When we obtain actual knowledge of CSAM in the app we remove it, close the accounts involved, and report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) or the relevant authority in the jurisdiction concerned.
- We preserve the material and the account records for as long as the law requires so that law enforcement can act on the report, and we cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement.
- We do not tell the person who posted the content that a report was made about it.
How the app is built
- Shijro is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly create accounts for them. See the privacy policy.
- There is no messaging, no public profile for account holders and no way to contact another user through the app, so the app cannot be used to approach a child.
- Family content is visible only to the members of that family. A family can only be made public by us, and we review it before doing so.
- Photos and documents are served only to the members of the family they belong to, never through public links.
Compliance with child safety laws
We comply with the child safety laws that apply to Shijro, including the laws on reporting child sexual abuse material where the app is available, and with Google Play's Child Safety Standards policy. These standards are reviewed whenever the app changes in a way that affects them, and at least once a year.
Child safety contact
The child safety point of contact for Shijro is its developer, who is responsible for these standards and for our CSAM prevention practices. Reach them at contact@shijro.com. Law enforcement and child safety organisations may use the same address.
